I think we merely automated the typewriters and outsourced the monkeys :)
I moderate a fair amount of spam on my blog and am surprised at it's low quality. The best of it uses algorithms I coded as an undergrad (method of creating faux shakespeare) ... I am shocked that these guys don't put more energy into writing a better spambot, given the money involved in their field...
